The Research Unit of Food Quality (ForN) of the University of Bayreuth is an interdisciplinary organization that complements research in natural sciences with expertise in food law and related areas.

The aim of ForN is to link research at the University of Bayreuth with external research institutions and industry partners in the area of food quality. ForN focuses on scientific research on the production, quality and physiological effects of food as well as ecological considerations of food production.

The research unit was established as a follow-up organization to the project "Forschungsstelle für Nahrungsmittelqualität (ForN)" (2009 bis 2015) in the framework of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The research activities of the ERDF project will be continued as part of the Chair of Bioanalytical Sciences and Food Analysis. In parallel the organization of ‘ForN’ was adopted to the new guidelines for Research Units of the University of Bayreuth and now acts as a transdisciplinary platform for projects in food sciences.
